The Structure of Giving

The three parts involved in GIFTING:

  1. The making - Things are ideas turned into matter. You may see clay or ink or paint, but what those pieces are really made of are ideas (and sometimes a little magic).
  1. The giving - At some point, for a gift to become a gift, someone has to select something. Whether it's tough or obvious, the choice is so often what makes the gift unique. Then, we must let go of the object. A gift isn't a gift unless its given.
  1. The receiving - Finally, someone must accept. This can be the hardest step to accomplish. Sometimes receiving a gift makes us feel guilty (because we feel we haven’t given enough) or weak even, but let that go! Whoever got you a gift wants you to have it! Honor them and receive that gift graciously.
